Boxing
Boxing is
a combat sport in which two participants, generally of similar weight,
fights using only their fists to strike. It is a stand-up form of
fighting that focuses on scientifically using one's body to properly
defend as well as execute strikes.
In the sport of boxing there are primarily 3
ways to win; if the opponent is knocked out (KO'ed) and unable to get
up before the referee counts to ten seconds, if the opponent is deemed
to injured to continue (a technical knockout, or TKO) or if the
pre-determined number of rounds expires before a KO or TKO, then judges
will render a decision.
Although fighting with fists come naturally
to people, evidence of fist-fighting contests first appear on ancient
Sumerian, Egyptian and Minoan reliefs. The ancient Greeks provide us
our first historical records of boxing as a formal sport; they codified
a set of rules and staged tournaments with professionals. The birth
hour of boxing as a sport may be its acceptance as an Olympic game as
early as 688 BC. Modern boxing evolved in Europe. Today, there are
numerous styles of boxing practiced throughout the world.

Kickboxing

Kickboxing refers to the sport of
combining the grace and style of boxing with kicking. Kickboxing is a
standing sport and does not allow continuation of the fight once a
combatant has reached the ground.
Kickboxing, like boxing, is often practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or as a full-contact sport.
Kickboxing started becoming more popular in
America in the early 70's. Between 1970 and 1973 (in federation PKA) a
handful of kickboxing promotions were staged across the USA. In the
early days the rules were never clear, one of the first tournaments
held had no weight divisions and all competitors fought until one was
left. At the time there was no infrastructure, no set format of rules.
This was until the formation of the World Kickboxing Association
(WKA). They were the first organized body of martial arts on a global
scale to sanction fights, create ranking systems, and institute a
development program. Today, the International Kickboxing Federation
(IKF) is the most active kickboxing sanctioning body in N. America.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (aka
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu) is a martial art and combat sport and a form of
self-defense that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. It was
derived from the Japanese martial art and Kodokan Judo in the early
20th century, which was itself then a recently developed system
(founded in 1882), based on multiple school (or Ryu) of Japanese
Jujutsu.
It promotes the principle that a smaller,
weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger,
stronger assailant using leverage and proper technique; most notably by
applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat them. Jiu-Jitsu can be
trained for sport grappling matches, mixed martial arts (MMA)
competition or self-defense. Sparring (commonly referred to as
'rolling') and live drilling play a major role in training.
One of the major differences between our
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the Submission Wrestling class is the use of
the Gi (traditional uniform worn in class). The Gi is meant replicate
clothing worn by someone in a street situation. In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
we can use the gi as a weapon to control and submit our opponent in a
variety of different ways. Due to the friction the gi creates, the
game is generally a bit slower and more controlled and requires greater
technique to escape bad positions and submission holds because you
can't simply rely on being able to slip out with the help of sweat. It
is also more realistic for self-defense due to the fact that you will
learn how to properly use clothing to help finish a fight.

Submission Wrestling

Submission wrestling (also
known as submission fighting, submission grappling and No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu)
is a formula of competition and a general term describing the aspect of
martial arst and combat sports that focus on clinch and ground fighting
with the aim of obtaining a submission hold using submission locks.
One of the major differences between
Submission Wrestling and traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes is
that there is no Gi (the uniform worn in BJJ) worn in Submission
Wrestling classes. In fact, you are not allowed to grab the opponents
clothing at all. This, combined with more sweat and less friction
often leads to a bit of a quicker match that requires tighter control
to achieve hold-downs and finishes. There is also more of an emphasis
on takedowns in our Submission wrestling classes as opposed to the Gi
based Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Cardio Kick

Cardio Kickboxing
is a sport-specific fitness program created to give you a great
workout, teach you fundamental kickboxing techniques and allow you to
have some fun while getting in shape. The techniques used during the
45 minute classes, using conventional heavy bags and training pads, are
based on authentic kickboxing techniques which provide both resistance
training and cardio vascular benefits to its participants. The class
is a true "Full Body Workout", unlike other, trendy exercise programs
that claim to give you a similar experience. Our Cardio Kickboxing
program is the real thing.
This intense workout can improve strength,
aerobic fitness, flexibility, coordination, balance and reduce stress.
The American Council on Exercise (ACE), which evaluates products and
programs, notes that, during a one-hour kickboxing workout, you can
burn from 500 to 800 calories, which is up to 2x the calories you burn
during a one-hour step-aerobics class. The workout will leave you
drenched in sweat and feeling energized!

If you're reading this webpage, then I
assume it safe to say that these are attributes you'd like your child
to have. As a parent myself I know how hard these things are to
instill in children. I can guarantee you martial arts is one of the
best, if not THE BEST way to reach these goals. Did you know that Martial Arts is 10x better than Team Sports in developing a child's self-esteem and confidence? It's true, and the earlier your child starts developing these traits, the better.
In our kids program, we allow each child
to progress at their own pace. We realize all kids are unique and
learn differently from one another. However, I have learned that all kids LOVE GAMES! Part
of our curriculum is to play games with the children that is directly
related BJJ & Kickboxing. These games make learning fun and
ultimately, keep the child interested in the class and progressing.
Going to class becomes something you can leverage with because they
WANT to be there. "Finish your homework and we can go to Jiu-Jitsu",
will be met with an "Okay, Mom!!"
In our programs, we don't just teach
children to punch and kick as you will find at many other schools,
rather we work to help build your child's character. You will instantly notice the difference in your child's focus, energy, self-esteem, etc.
Your child will be learning how to effectively handle themselves both
physically and mentally, so he or she can build the strength necessary
to resist peer pressure and deal with all the other negative things
that come their way.
But, don't take my word for it..... Stop By And Find Out For Yourselves!!!
